erickson to asu????

there was an article in the oregonian on it, I doubt it happens but I think it would be a perfect fit for tempe

erickson would have asu contenders for the nati title within 2 years imo, but after that i don't know if he would stay haha

i guess chow is the favorite though

He'd def. get some big time playmakers to come to ASU I believe...and I'd think he'd get them towards the top..but the only problem with Erickson is how long would he be there for? He's track record isn't great for staying with schools..

1982-85 Idaho
1986 Wyoming
1987-88 Washington State
1989-94 Miami
1999-2002 Oregon State
2006-Present Idaho

I've heard loads of rumors about who could get the job. I don't know much about Erickson but he seems like he would be a decent fit. ASU is trying to keep the rumors to a minimum, but I'm surprised no coaches have stepped up and voiced their interest in the job.

Ya, really there are three problems with Dennis

1. He brings in less than perfect role models
2. He doesn't stay long
3. He's a drunk

but you know your going to get at least these 2 postive things:

1. You will win, its just going to happen
2. Your team will have major playmakers and future NFL stars (mostly from the juco ranks)......and having NFL stars isn't just good because you can say they are from your school but also because they donate (ex. chad johnson, a guy who never would have come to osu without erickson and only spent like 5 months in corvallis altogether has donated the most money of any athlete back to OSU (unless payton ever comes through hahaha)

i'm personally praying you guys don't get him, we already have to go against cal and usc not to mention all of the cash uo has....then to add asu to the title contenders would be TOUGH

It's not who I thought we would get, but I think he's a good hire. Should be a huge improvement in the coming years.

Look from my experience with Erickson....

Yes he is a drunk, he did get a DUI in '95 and to my knowledge hasn't stopped drinking-he was still drinking back at OSU

Yes he brings in questionable players, but I think he has changed a bit, at Miami those guys were thugs. At OSU I think they were just labeled thugs because of DE's past and the fact that the players got tons and tons of penalites-mostly personal fouls. But off the field from my experiences they were great guys. Examples- Chad Johnson, his childhood was hell and he had very hard times and is thus labeled a bad guy, but he actually he is very nice and doesn't cause off the field problems. Another example, Dennis Weathersby who was shot just before the NFL draft, he seemed like a great guy with a bad past. I think Erickson has changed from recruiting pure thugs to "thugs" who really aren't thugs but just live like them. But don't let the internet idiots fool you, he will bring in playmakers and will have ASU winning. And winning quickly with juco transfers-which just btw the I love juco transfers, what a life saver-sorry off topic. I'm not joking, if DE can somehow stay at ASU for 5-10 years (I know its a near impossibility) but probably a half the pro bowl roster will be from Tempe. You think Todd Heap, Jake Plummer and Terrell Suggs are anything? Just wait.

Yes DE is unloyal, correction he is loyal to whoever is willing to pay him the most. Expect DE to say he "is retiring in Tempe" only to leave for like the Cardinals a week later. But whatever, winning is worth it right? haha

Through all this, the problems I see him facing is 1. Does he have connections in Arizona? He sure had connections in the Northwest so we'll see. I also wonder if recruits will question his loyalty, but I think he will be fine there. As well he is 59...how will that affect things.

Also, people make fun of his NFL record but look-At the Seahawks, a franchise that had absolutely no winning tradition and were frankly bad, he went almost .500 despite that which for Seattle should have been good enough. At the 49ers, lets be honest that was the a HORRIBLE franchise, the owner was not willing to pay ANYONE (kind of like how he still doesn't pay anyone) and once again despite that he went 7-9 in his first year. Besides DE is a recruiter, and in the NFL there is very little recruiting especsially when your owner is a stiff.

Once again, there is no guarantee he will have success...but he has two national championships won at a permier school, then has a fiesta bowl for a team that was absolutely horrid three years prior-and that year OSU were somewhat screwed by the BCS and should have been in the title game. Add that with success at Wyoming and Idaho and you made a believer out of me, I don't know about you.

but....ASU: Watch out though, at OSU he left the cupboards bare before he left, he did leave some quality skill players (Newton, Jackson and Anderson-all likely NFL starters at skill positions) but he left no depth and the rest was nothing

As for your forum-
Thats the typical outsiders view on DE, he is no role model but I think he deserves some credit for giving people 2nd chances (even if it is for his own benefit) and he isn't as bad as people think he is.

I found this pretty accurate though haha:

HAHAHA...ASU got stuck with Erickson

Sorry, I can't help but laugh...Dennis Erickson??? Oh man, the Athletic Director at ASU must be high...Dennis Erickson??? Now I don't feel too bad about the Cougs being stuck with Doba for another year. It's a two-team race to the bottom of the Pac-10. Hey, at least Erickson might be able to do some effective recruiting compared to WSU. Chin up Sun Devils, at least you don't have to deal with Doba...At least Dennis likes his liquor so you have someone who knows how to party, Mike Price style!

I guess they are the dumbest ppl on earth then. They believed the crap that came out of DE's mouth.

I like how he didn't even address the players he recruited. Thats class. Its one thing to lie to your boss, but to lie to a bunch of 17-18 yr old kids who hang on your every word is another.

I didn't say it was right for him to lie to them but for them to fall for it is (no sarcasm) possibly one of the dumbest things I have seen or heard anyone doing

As for "lying to a bunch of 17-818 kids".....sorry but when I was looking to go to college I made sure to investigate the school and makue sure I was going to a good place, and I was no athlete...if these kids aren't smart enough to check out DE's history they are just plain stupid. In fact they don't even have to look at the track record, he is a big name coach who wasn't accepted anywhere else so he setteld for Idaho...common sense tells you he is using you (just like Idaho used him-but somehow Idaho doesn't look like the bad guy even though they knew what was happening and got publicty from it)

hmm...what did Mike Price do at Wazzu....oh ya he WON....what did DE do at OSU, Miami and Wyoming....oh ya he won

my question to you jnrinwa is.......how can you say DE will lose? What possibly on his track record tells you he will lose??? Especially now that he is back at a bigger school not shitholes like OSU was, and Wyoming, Washington State and Idaho are

you may hate the guy, but I don't understand how you can say he will lose

I'm sure when they are waiving a free education and possibly (any pros go to Idaho?) a spot playing at the next level you tend to overlook a few of the negatives.

Not to mention that a lot of recruits looking to Idaho probably don't have too many other options.
