My Notre Dame Rant..

I am sick and tired of Notre Dame being this high and mighty college football team. Mostly, I am sick and tired of Notre Dame fans whineing about how they deserve to be in the top 10 and a BCS bowl becasue they have such a hard, difficult schedule. And that their "quality" loss against USC is just as good as a win.

You know what I have to say to that?! BULLSHIT. If that's your attitude to your team being a legitmate BCS team, then I say Fresno State > Notre Dame.

I did some math on why Fresno is more deserving than THE Notre Dame Irish.

Notre Dame (8-2)
Fresno State (8-2)

------------------

Notre Dame Schedule W/L (52-59)
Fresno State Schedule W/L (65-59)

------------------

Notre Dame's two losses: 5-6 Michigan State, 11-0 USC
ND played both teams very tight.
Fresno State's two losses: 10-1 Oregon, 11-0 USC
Fresno played both teams very tight.

-----------------

Notre Dame has four of their ten opponents over %.500, and two of those teams are 6-5.
Fresno State has SEVEN of their ten opponents over %.500. (6-5, 10-1, 7-3, 8-3, 11-0, 7-3, 6-3.)

----------------

And I dont want to hear ND fans say, well Fresno is in a pathetic conference...when they ARENT IN A CONFERENCE at all. And if all else fails just point to the previous points.

----------------

In conclusion, Notre Dame is grossly over-rated. How about Fresno? Poor Oregon deserves to be aheard of these Fightin' Irish.

And don't let me take away from this team, congrats on turning the program around...but they aren't as good as the polls say.

Fresno State > Notre Dame. Discuss.

thank you, ASU Husker for bringing this up. I didn't want to say anything because it would just look like I'm an Oregon fan whining. But I couldn't agree with you more. Fresno St. has got to be so pissed by now. ND has no business being ahead of Oregon (2 losses) and should be, at the very least, in a dead heat with Fresno. And one of ND's losses was to Michigan St. - what have they done this season to make them a "notable" team to lose to?

But I'm waiting to see what the computers say - will they say the same thing as the two coaches polls? Will ND be ranked #6 in the BCS tomorrow?

I'm with both of you on this one. I think ND is a very solid team, but not a great team. As much as it sickens me, they are all but a lock for the BCS because of their ability to draw ratings and money. I think ND is probably deserving of a 15-20 rating but certainly not #6. The thing that is really messed up about the whole deal is they are ahead of Oregon (and others they shouldn't be) who only lost to USC, when ND lost to USC and Michigan State. At least they do have one "big win" by beating 7-4 Michigan

This little equation will determine the Fiesta Bowl teams:

UO + ND = $
OSU + ND = $$$$$

ND does not deserve to be in the Fiesta and the real match-up should be UO vs OSU. Unfortunatly $ signs will prevail over common sense. Ask all the so called "sports journalist" who voted ND so high in the rankings this one question: If another team (like Minnesota, Cal, Arizona, Colorado, Auburn, etc) played the exact same schedule with the exact same results, would they be ranked as high as ND is now. I seriously think not. It is all BS.

I know your'e right, Go-Pac, but my heart still wants to believe these two articles....

I still don't understand why ND is a shoe-in, though, say over OSU, especially after seeing the BCS rankings today. Why does it come down to "what lucky team gets to play the Irish?"

It is all about the color green, and I'm not talking about the Thunder Green of the UO unis. ND is a lock because, well because they are ND and they will command a large audience. They didn't deserve to be in the Fiesta in 2000 and they got spanked by the Beaves. This I believe is a far superior ND team then the 2000 version, but they do not belong.

but couldn't you say the same thing of OSU? Don't they have a huge audience, too? And lots of dough? and travel well? And they were national champs not too long ago.

They've got to be feeling really slighted right now, too.

Because anybody that gets to play ND gets the worst of the BCS bowl teams lol.

Get this though, I listened to a video clip I saw online and heard Lee Corso say that Notre Dame is "Americas team." At least the voters aren't biased at all

lol. that was a good one.

That's some seriously good propoganda, though...."America's team". So why are they biased? Other than them not being in a conference, what's the history on this team that I'm missing that gives them such mystique?
