books

what are your favorites and what have you read lately that rocked? yep, football is over until the bowls...getting desparate. I read old classics and really fluffy fiction (dessert) like Crichton, Brown and the likes. I can't get into a lot of the new writers that attempt feebily at the "great american novel". But always on the look out.

A couple years ago I was really into reading Michael Crichton novels. I read Congo, The Andromeda Strain, Sphere, Timeline, The Lost World and Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park has been my favorite novel ever since. Read it in like 1 1/2 days.

I've read a bunch of books for school. Star Wars novels are really cool. Read Star Wars Shadows of the Empire (HIGHLY recommended if you are a big Star Wars fan. Takes place in-between Ep. 5 and Ep. 6. Also read Star Wars Revenge of the Sith). I have also read a few military novels: The Last Mission (NONF), Windtalkers (FIC), Saving Private Ryan (FIC), and my favorite military novel Band of Brothers (NONF).

oh yeah, I went through my Crichton phase, too. Sphere was my favorite - in fact, I skipped the first day of one of my college terms to finish reading it...oops! I pick up his new ones when they come on paperback.

I've seen windtalkers and saving private ryan - would you still recommend them to read? Also, what are they having you read in school these days? Anything good?

Currently struggling through Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. British humor, wow. For every funny paragraph I have to trudge my way through 6 or 7 pages of off the wall wacky stuff that might be humorous if I were stoned, drunk, and inchoerent.

Didn't enjoy A Farewell to Arms. Do read Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Is Roots what the series was based on? if so, how long is the book and did the series follow it closely?

Yeah, the series was based on the book by Alex Haley. It's about a 700+ paperback. I have not seen the t.v. version, but the book was incredible.
