Woody Woodpecker

The Pilieated Woodpecker is actually quite common, although less common then your other woodpeckers like the Downy, Hairy, or Northern Flicker. I saw one Pileated Woodpecker on a wooden light pole once in the middle of a busy intersection in Lake Oswego. He was probably thinking whether or not the insects in it were worth sucking up some creosote.

If the bird had a red head and you were living in Oregon at the time, then you probably saw a red-breasted sapsucker.

(nah, that wasn't the woodpecker I've seen. I was CA, and only the very tip of his head was red...they annoyed me something fierce in the morning.

I will do a little research and I will identify that bird for you. What else can you tell me about the bird? By the way, my major was Zoology and took a lot of ornithology classes.

Bugs Bunny

(woodpecker: to memory, they had white heads, with red tops, and black bodies. They were small and pecked into our Oak trees. that's all I got..but I might just be remembering woody woodpecker. I think they really did have a little patch of red on the head, though and black bodies. the white head, I might be more fuzzy on.)
