Sometimes in the mixed up and messed up world people come together and do some real good. Good story.

seriously. this is crazy - her story is being told on university sports message boards all across the country. In her guest log, read this post with this time dated: 8:12:44 PM http://www.curenikolette.org/

I am in awe of anyone this brave and amazing.

you rock, Go-Pac! I just matched your donation.

Also, for those charity givers out there - if your car ever dies and it isn't worth the fix and you can't sell it, you can give it to charity, where they will come tow it away for free, then usually sell off the parts and you get a taxable deductible of at least $500, unless they sell the parts/car for more, then you get more. My boyfriends Ford Tauras Wagon's transmission died so he gave it away to the Children's Cancer Fund.

I urge you all to never buy a Ford Tauras wagon, despite how sexy it is to all the ladies.

actually, it was his parent's old car - so I blame them.

PS. I just emailed this story to CNN. I think it's great that college sports fans are spear-heading fundraising on their boards.

I know a thing about old cars, my Honda was built in 87. 40mpg though can't get rid of it.

If you donate your car, make sure you check the background of the charity you are donating it too. They should provide information on how much of their donations are delivered to the people they serve. Be suspicious of anything less then 90 cents on the dollar.

good point. you HAVE to research charities... a lot of predator charities out there. A good site to find out which are the good ones is the charity network - it rates charities, etc.

my old honda got something like 35 mpg. I now have a Subaru - what you get in safety (steel framing) you pay for in gas mileage. It's still pretty good, though.

My honda is a little pop can on wheels. I would look like a mosquito on a windshield if I ever got into an accident.

you don't have to tell me - a fender bender couldv'e totalled the darn thing, plus it had no airbags, which was why I made the upgrade/switch. That plus it kept getting broken into, even after I refused to replace the stupid stereo. It was an 86. How many times has yours been broken into? Mine had 4 break-ins and was stolen (then recovered) once.

My car has been broken into twice.

Just because we are talking about cars, remember folks DONATE. It is a challenge.

dude, sooner fans are embarassing us. they raised $12,000, while duck fans only raised $4000. (woops, make that $4020) Here's their braggin' rites site:

http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57372

If we get it started here, even just a little bit, I'll write a note in Nikolette's journal that pactentalk.com is pulling for her.

oh, and I'll add a "Go Pac 10!" at the end.

Wow that's a horrible story. I can't imagine how the family must feel. Always nice to see lots of people coming together to help though. I suppose I ought to make a donation, and I'll make this a "sticky" post.

second challange: I will donate another $10 when the next person donates $10

not tyring to be pushy, I know cash flow is tight for a lot of us, especially with Christmas - it's just a challenge, hoping to inspire another donation.
