| I admit, I haven't seen most of these films. What do you think of the list, Bruinforever? I don't think Citizen Kane belongs on the list. It made a socio-economic/political statement then, but so have so many other movies since then. I was ground-breaking then, but it's really not that good of a movie. Vertigo, 2001 and the Godfathers are terrific. I've never seen Singing in the Rain all the way through. And, like an American idiot, I've never seen the foreign films. I might actually add Matrix and LOTR to the list as ground-breaking films. (go ahead and poke fun)

| I have only seen 4. The Godfather, Parts I and II (Coppola, 1972, and 1974, USA). Gotta check out the rest of the films. The list itself, I am told, is put together by the elite of the film community around the world, so no argument from me. A multitude of people think that Citizen Kane is the greatest film ever.

| did it live up to the title of #1 movie ever for you? 2001 is amazing. It's a little slow in the beginning, but stick with it. It gets really good w/ the monolith, the monkeys, and Hal. I'd be really curious on your take of this one. It's a totally out there concept of the origin of life.

| i truly think that some of those movies are to old to still have the significance they once did, in terms of kubrik movies, i would have put dr. strangelove or clockwork orange on the list before 2001.

| Yes, some of those movies feel old and awkward these days. Casablanca still works, though, I think. Clockwork Orange was amazing...but before 2001? I'm not totally convinced of that. 2001 still challenges most modern day creation myths and also conatins another "possible" thoery of universal laws, which fits squarely with current physicist's string theories. (not that I believe it at all, but it has significance for the sake of idea, ingenuity and debate). Clockwork Orange has political/social significance up to a point. But I could be persuaded on this issue.

| an interesting point about 2001, which was written by Arthur C. Clarke. I mentioned that it challenges most modern creation myths...except this one: Ron L. Hubbard, who created Scientology, also wrote a lot of sci-fi before doing the Scientology thing. I suspect he was a big fan of 2001 and Clarke because his religion (from what I've heard) resembles 2001's loose suggestion that life evolved by the purposeful interference of extraterrestrials. go see 2001. It's a mind bender.

| Stay off the beer and any "medication" before you see 2001. I didn't like it as much as Autzen, perhaps because I saw Star Wars before 2001. 2001 makes you think and Star Wars is just eye candy. They could have cut about 40 minutes from 2001 and made better movie without losing its message.

| heh. I totally agree. They could have shaved off a lot in the beginning. But for the time, I think they were really trying to "set the mood". The score is what makes the movie work, if you ask me. Without it, it would seem really lame.

| The opening segment with the apes and the musical score that accompanies it clearly is masterful. Also, 2001 predates Star Wars by 10 years and at the time I suspect it was ground breaking.
