I saw a wolf outside a zoo in real life. It was in the Redwoods of CA. in the early 5am in a 5 foot snow. He was alone. I was alone (inside a cabin). It was a treasured memory, since they were rumored to be extinct there.

Autzen you are refering to the Ivory Billed Woodpecker aka Woody Woodpecker. I have seen a Pilliated Woodpecker. They are not rare. If you have seen a wolf, then you definately have seen a bald eagle. They are quite common now. Portland has a nesting pair about 1 mile from downtown on the Willamette.

I saw two bald eagles on my way to Canada once. I was all excited at first...then I realized that they were eating trash. Great American symbol...scavengers.

I don't think we mean the same woodpecker, go-pac, there was this whole segment on this woodpecker in FA on 60 minutes this year, and made it into the NY times top happenings of 2005 because it was supposed to be extinct. (nerd factor setting in....)
