Nice little Pac-10/Sec challenge for the future.

Tennessee signs on to play Oregon in 2010, '13:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Expanding its West Coast visibility, Tennessee has signed its first home-and-away series with Oregon, Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said Monday.

The Southeastern Conference's Volunteers will play the Pac-10 Ducks on Sept. 11, 2010, in Knoxville, then travel to Eugene for a rematch on Sept. 14, 2013.

"This is another major BCS opponent for us and will be the first time we've ever played in the Pacific Northwest," Hamilton said. "This continues our pattern of intersectional competition against premier opponents."

Tennessee has upcoming series against California in 2006-2007 and UCLA in 2008-2009. The Vols announced earlier they will play North Carolina in 2011-2012 and Oklahoma in 2014-2015.

Sixth-ranked Oregon finished the regular season with 10 wins and a single loss to top-ranked Southern Cal. The Ducks will play Oklahoma in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl on Dec. 29.

The Vols suffered their first losing season since 1988, finishing 5-6 and snapping a streak of 16 consecutive bowl appearances.

Every team should step up to the plate and play one real tough intersectional game. Oregon has non league games against Oklahoma, Michigan, Purdue, and now Tennessee all on the docket for the next few years. Kudos to Oregon.
