Charlie Weiss

They are running a poll on ESPN right now asking if Charlie Weiss is the best coach in college football. How did this guy rise to the top of everybody's list so fast? He isn't even through his first season yet and there are a lot of really, REALLY great coaches out there. He must have made a pact with God to be in the spotlight when he signed on with Notre Dame or something. 5-2 and he's already the best coach ever? WOW!!! He's not even in my top 5.

maybe a pact with the Devil? This must be a soul-selling situation. How else can you explain such great publicity?

The inconsisitency and hypocracy comparing the first years of Weis and Willingham is astounding. ND was 7-0 with a victory of FSU this time during Willinghams first year and ND didn't give Willingham a 10 year contract. I don't want to knock Weis, he has done a good job but people need to relax and watch. After year two or three then we can judge Weis and his ability to coach.

Out of all the college football debates this year, this one, to me, is the most fascinating.

After being labeled as racially insensitive last year, signing Weis to a long-term deal just doesn't make ND look very good.

The debate is continued further by playing the whole "Those are Willinghams recruits" card against the "Ty couldn't win with his recruits" hand.

I agree this has been a great debate since early this season. I don't know if it was a racial thing or not but you have to let a coach at least get his first full recruiting class through. I think Tyrone Willingham did a nice job at ND and caught a pretty raw deal. I guess we'll just have to wait at see how Charlie Weiss does over the long haul.

any coach who licks his own snot repeatedly on national television deserves only this award: "Best Booger Eater of the Year".

so totally, pass it on...BFF, stay sweet, and and don't change this summer...unless you are a booger eater.

Like Weis or not, what he did for that young ND fan in Washington was a CLASS ACT if there ever was one. Huge props to the man for doing that, one of the best...if not the best story to come outta college football this year. You're a good man Charlie Weis.

excuse me while I take my proverbial foot out of my mouth. I can't believe I haven't heard that story yet. Now I feel like a total shmuck for my petty comments. While I still think he's over-rated as a coach, he obviously has some character going on. And how sad of a story is that? The poor child dies before seeing the game? Augh. That kicked me in the gut. It sure puts it into perspective...me bitching about what bowl you go to, etc., while sick children are literally trying to stay alive for just one more game. humble pie.

Sure Weis is probably a class act, I suspect most coaches are. He still doesn't deserve all the accolades until he BEATS SC and wins some major games and posts consectutive 9-10 win seasons.

You know what the funny thing is? Weiss had visited my school just recently and I did not even know it. Here is proof: http://www.bishopgorman.org/

Like I said before, my school is a magnet for Division 1A in ALL sports.

you weren't kidding about your school being a magnet. Is that a regular thing that happens at your school - having bigwig coaches come? And how big is your school? just curious.

Oh yeah, coaches and scouts come here all of the time. A couple of months ago I saw an Oklahoma scout. Last year, there was a whole bunch of San Diego State scouts at one of our basketball games recruiting an eventual commit Kashif Watson. My school has 924 students.

I wouldn't nec. say he is a bad coach, infact I'd say he is def. above average. But you're right when you say he doesn't deserve all he gets credit for until he proves he can win the ones that aren't against a sub-%.500 team.
