ESPN's: USC's place in History

Okay..I'm sure that you all know what this is. ESPN with Mark May and Kirk Herbstreit were ranking USC with the "top 10" (but not so...) teams in college football history. I have a few problems with this.

First, how in the world do you figure that this 05' Trojan team is one of the best teams in college football history? They HAVENT won yet, they still have the all important national championship game against a Texas team that I think will beat them. How can we judge how good they are when their season isn't over yet? How is one of the "'best teams'" ever struggling to beat Fresno State and having to make a last play effort against Notre Dame.

Secondly, win or lose this week against Texas..they still aren't the best USC team of their run. The 04' Trojans are much better than these Trojans. They had the light swtich offense AND a solid defense.

Finally, ...now I'm not going to be biased..well yea I proabaly am..But Kirk picked the 95' Huskers to lose to 05 USC.. Are you SERIOUS? The 95' Huskers were the most dominate team in college football history.. Winning each game by an avg. margin of 39 pts while racking up 600 yards of offense (400/gm rushing) and putting out one of the fiercest defenses ever...Tommie Frazier, Amham Green, Lawrence Phillips, Grant Wistrom...You can't honestly tell me that USC would beat the 95' Huskers. The power game and option attack would pick apart USC's shabby defense and the Blackshirt defense would hold their own agaist that duel-headed monster of USC's offense.

Ugh..I know that a debate like this will never end and can never be proven...but come on!

who would win: Pete Caroll of 05/06 with astronaut gear, OR, Nebraska of 95 with medieval armor.

okay seriously, I think everyone is tired of the USC love fest, including me. But, we'll have to wait and see after their game against Texas.

also, something funny: so you all probably know of the Matt Leinart photos of being drunk, etc. Well....while watching the ball drop last night and watching these drunk, sweaty, guys trying to kiss all over these girls, my bf said something totally amusing that I have to share. He said: "that guy is totally pulling a Leinart." and now we call it "pulling a Leinart". ha.

I digress...sorry for the tanget, ASU Husker. You deserve a better response to this.

I like the "ten best" arguments that they always have. In my opinion though, I think USC is in the top three. I agree that Nebraska is probably the best of all time, but since there isn't any way to know... USC is in the top three because:

1) They haven't been beaten even with many of their tough games coming on the road, when every opponent has been looking to give USC their best shot.

2) They DO have a good defense but many of their best players have been out during the season (I bet USC's Defense plays much better against Texas). Another reason their defense looks weak is because they have been playing in the Pac 10 where every team is capable of 30+ a game.

3) Excellent coaching. If you give Pete Carroll prep time, he is going to find a way to win.

4) The most dynamic offense in history. Yeah Nebraska and other teams have had great offenses, but USC can hit you in so many ways. Any play can go for a TD, and any player can be the one to score it.

I'm not a writer or a football anylst (obviously) but that's my two cents.

Valid two cents.

Idk though, I'm not 100% sold on the 05' Trojans yet. I cannot wait to watch the Rose Bowl though..It's gonna be a great one. Maybe it'll prove me wrong.

On another note...SI rates this USC dynasty as only the 7th best ever...Top 3 include: #3 93-97' Huskers (should have won 5-straight NCs) #2 46-49' Fighting Irish #1 53-58' Sooners

I'm reserving judgment until SC beats Texas.
