Time to Part Ways with Bill Doba

Most of us loyal fans of Washington State University Football can recall a few years back when every year was expected to be a bowl game season. Since the unexpected departure of Mike Price, our hopes have been anything but fulfilled. A glimmer of light shone through this season with the Cougs accumulating 6 victories early enough, but the heartbreaking loss to the Huskies in yesterdays Apple cup may have shattered our dreams yet again. I beleive the problem with the Cougs lies within the coaching.

For the most part, all of the coaches still at Wazzu are ghosts left behind from a Price era of cougar football. I also believe that with poor coaching comes poor recruiting. You would be hard pressed to find any players on the cougar team that are the caliber of player that Price sought when he was coaching here. And for that matter, even if they are a player of the same quality, you return to the problem of poor coaching. Bad play calling, ineffective game preparation and a lack of confidence in their leader are a few among many of the problems that are plaguing the Cougars as of late.

Back to the issue of poor recruiting, if a new recruit has no reason to believe that the coach that is visiting or contacting him can get the job done, he won't be inclined to choose to attend that school. If a school has a program that won't help further his football career, he wont go there. Players want to have a coach that is a born leader. Someone who believes so strongly in the program, and projects that confidence in everything he does, that his beleifs are in turn passed on to the recruit. Only then will you begin to rebuild a base for a championship football team.

I believe that bringing in a new face to coach along with the incredible fan support system the cougars already have is the key. And to accomplish that, we need to do what has been on everybody's mind. FIRE BILL DOBA! As a loyal Cougar fan, my only hope is to return our team to the championship contender that we all know we should be.

Before the season I was saying Wazzu needed to do something about their coaching....but I was talking to a Wazzu fan about mid-season and he was saying how much he loved Doba so I assumed it was good in Pulman...I just talked to him again today, said basically what you are saying....

I think there needs to be a change, you can't bring in low recruits in expect to do well consistently

I've seen a couple games, but don't know much about the coaching situation up there. If it is anything like the coaching at some other Pac 10 schools, (see: Dirk Koetter) I can feel your pain.
